PSL 8: Lahore Qalandars defeats Multan Sultans by one run

In chasing target of 176 runs by defending champions, hosts Multan Sultans managed to score 174 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, Muhammad Rizwan scored 75 runs, Fakhar Zaman scored a half century and was declared best player of the match

In opening match of HBL PSL 8, defending champions Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by one run after a thrilling encounter.

In chasing target of 176 runs by defending champions, hosts Multan Sultans managed to score 174 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, Muhammad Rizwan scored 75 runs, Fakhar Zaman scored a half-century, and was declared best player of the match

In the first match played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan Sultans captain Muhammad Rizwan won the toss and decided to bowl. Fakhar Zaman and Tahir Baig on behalf of Lahore Qalandars made a confident start of the innings and scored 61 runs in the first wicket partnership after which Tahir Baig was dismissed on an individual score of 32 runs.

Fakhar Zaman scored the first fifty of the tournament with a brilliant batting performance and he was the victim of Usama Mir by scoring 66 runs while Shai Hope was dismissed with 19 runs and Kamran Ghulam was dismissed with 3 runs.

Hussain Talat returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs while Sikandar Raza remained not out after scoring 19 runs. The Lahore team could score 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

On behalf of Multan Sultans, Osama Mir and Ehsanullah dismissed two players each while Aqeel Hussain and Shahnawaz Dhani got one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 176 runs, Multan Sultans got off to a flying start and scored 100 in the first wicket partnership after which Shaan Masood returned to the pavilion with a solo score of 35 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan continued his responsible batting and completed his fifty but then he was bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi after scoring 75 runs. After Rizwan got out, David Miller returned to the pavilion after scoring 25 runs off 20 balls, while Pollard also left the team after scoring 20 runs off 12 balls, but Khushdal Shah put up some resistance in the final stages of the match.

Chasing the target, Multan Sultans needed 15 runs in the last over and 6 runs off the last ball. Khushdil Shah hit a shot off Zaman Khan’s ball but it was a boundary, so Qalandars defeated Sultans by one run after a thrilling contest. He made a winning start in the tournament.

Shaheen, Haris, Zaman and Hussain Talat took one wicket each for Lahore Qalandars.
