Samina Baig Will Be Climbing K2 In The Summers

She will be undertaking this adventurous venture as a sign of women empowerment and to raise awareness about global warming

Renowned Pakistani woman mountaineer Samina Baig will attempt the K2 summit in the upcoming summer of 2021, she is the only Pakistani female climber to climb the world’s highest peak of Mount Everest (8,849)

Samina Baig climbed Mount Everest with her brother Ali Mirza at the age of 21.

She will be undertaking this adventurous venture as a sign of women empowerment and to raise awareness about global warming and climate change.

The team led by Samina Baig will begin their trek to K2 base camp from Skardu in May. Ms. Baig will be the first Muslim woman to make history if she climbs the second highest peak of the world.

She has been awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan. She plans to carry Pakistan’s flag to the summit of the 8,611 meters high K-2 peak.

Samina Baig has shared a post on her Facebook in which she has announced the details of her campaign and the name of the sponsor. She wrote, “It is a great pleasure for me to announce the news of our K2Dream Expedition 2021, which will run from June 1 to July 31, 2021.”

The Special Communications Organization (SCO) is sponsoring Ms. Baig’s expedition.

SCO aims to empower Pakistani women by giving them the right exposure to excel in this world. SCO has previously taken several initiatives for sports and tourism activities in AJ&K and GB and this is the first time that SCO has sponsored a mountaineering adventure.

She said that her expedition to climb K2 will encourage the country’s youth towards mountain climbing and will promote tourism in the mountainous areas of Pakistan.
