Samiullah’s Statue Meet The Same Fate as Hockey in Pakistan

Bahawalpur Cantonment Board (BCB) installed legendary hockey player Samiullah’s statue as a tribute but its pieces went missing within two weeks of installation.

The sculpture of the legend, popular as ‘Flying Horse’ for his electrifying runs, was installed near his residence to honor his services for Pakistan.

The complaint was lodged by the citizen Mohammad Salman who noticed the theft while passing by the location.

BCB Spokesperson Chaudhry Shafiq said the board decided to install statues of various legends in the city and Samiullah Khan’s was the first in the line.

He added that the citizens need to adopt civic sense and urged the government to apprehend thieves immediately.

Chaudhry Shafiq informed the media that the missing ball and hockey has been reinstalled in the statue.

On the other hand, Bahawalpur District Police Officer (DPO) said police were carrying out investigation with the help of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. He assured those involved in the theft would be arrested soon.

Samiullah Khan played for Pakistan between 1973 and 1982 and won silver medal in the 1975 FIH World Cup.

The incident left Pakistanis fuming with anger and disappointed.
