Boxing Medalist’s Kin Passed Muster For Tokyo Olympics

Shah Hussain Shah became the first judoka from Pakistan to be qualified in the 2016 Olympics Games in Brazil

The son of Pakistani boxing medalist, Shah Hussain, has yet again qualified for the Tokyo Olympics on continental quota in 100kg event, confirms International Judo Federation (IJF).

Syed Hussain, the father of an Olympic athlete, is a retired Pakistani boxer from Lyari, who won the country’s first-ever Olympic boxing medal in the Middleweight division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in South Korea.

In this regard, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) said, “It will be the second time that Shah Hussain will be participating in the Olympic Games representing Pakistan”.

Soon after the qualification was finalized, sports journalist Faizan Lakhani shared the news.

The judoka missed some events of the Olympics due to the covid-19 pandemic and some personal circumstances but his last year’s performance in the 100 kg category was so much appreciated.

Owing to this, he was the top seed in the selection of candidates under the continental (Asian) quota.

Moreover, POA President Lt Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan congratulated Shah Hussain for securing the Olympic berth for second time consecutively.

The president extended his wishes with the Boxing medalist, who have backed their son throughout his journey till he reach Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old talented judoka, who hails from Japan, has received the honor to bear the Pakistan flag at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.

After 2 years, Shah became the first judo practitioner from Pakistan to qualify in the Olympics 2016 in Brazil.

Moreover, he has also represented Pakistan in the 2018 Asian Games and bagged a bronze medal in the 100 kg division.
