T20 World Cup 2022: Is Pakistan going to repeat 1992 WC moments?
Cricket fans started expecting the repetition of 1992 World Cup moments after Pakistan's dramatic entry to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Pakistan made it happen to enter the semi-final phase after a dramatic turn of events in the T20 World Cup 2022 following the thrilling upset victory of the Netherlands over South Africa.
Cricket fans started expecting the repetition of the 1992 World Cup moments after Pakistan’s dramatic entry to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Pakistan’s chances of even reaching the semi-finals looked forlorn at the start of the day on Sunday, but the Netherlands’ upset victory over South Africa provided Babar Azam’s side with the opportunity to clinch an unlikely semi-final berth.
A hard-fought five-wicket victory over Bangladesh helped Pakistan clinch the last spot in the semis and Watson believes the chances of a rematch of their meeting at the MCG at the start of the tournament and a dream final between the two biggest rivals in cricket now looms as a strong possibility.
India and Pakistan successfully navigated different paths to the final four on a highly-fluctuating final day of Super 12 action on Sunday and now could be on track to meet in the T20 World Cup final if they each win their difficult semi-final match-ups.
The triple-header on Sunday began with a shock loss for South Africa, who exited the tournament to open the gates for Pakistan or Bangladesh to qualify. At the same venue, Pakistan beat Bangladesh to seal their semi-final spot.
With New Zealand and England having already sealed their qualification after Saturday’s round of matches, Group 2 witnessed some drama with the Proteas going down to Netherlands in a stunning loss for the Temba Bavuma-led side, who were once on top of the table before back-to-back losses against Pakistan and Netherlands.
Pakistan’s win over Bangladesh ensured that they would be the fourth semi-finalists in the tournament with India joining England and New Zealand earlier in the day following South Africa’s exit.
India beat Zimbabwe by 71 runs in the final Super 12 clash and as Group 2 toppers set up a semi-final meeting with England. Meanwhile, Pakistan will face Group 1 toppers New Zealand in the first semi-final.
Momin Saqib aka Maro Mujhe Maro Guy drew stunning similarities between T20 WC 2022 and ODI WC 1992.
In a recent video posted by Momin on his Instagram account, he can be seen pointing out that Australia were knocked out in both the WCs, Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan in both the WCs and now Babar Azam’s Pakistan team will win this WC.
