T20 World Cup: Questions raised on umpiring after Bangladesh, India match

The umpires forced the Bangladesh captain to play on the wet outfield after the rain. The umpires, fulfilling Kohli's demands, forgot to give wides in Bangladesh's batting. He also saved India from a 5-run penalty by ignoring Kohli's fake fielding.

After the India-Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup, questions were raised about the umpiring during the Bangladesh-India match.

India defeated Bangladesh by 5 runs under Duckworth Louis Math after a sensational match in the important match of the T20 World Cup yesterday.

India chose to bat first and scored 184 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the 20 overs. In pursuit of the target, the Bangladeshi openers provided the best start, but the rain increased the difficulties for the batters and Bangladesh lost the match. Field umpires also played an important role for India’s victory.

In the second innings, due to the wetness of the outfield after the rain, Bangladeshi captain Shakib-ul-Hasan refused to come down to the ground, but the umpires and the Indian captain seemed to force him to play.

During India’s batting, the on-field umpire declared the Bangladeshi bowler’s short-pitched ball wide at the request of Virat Kohli, but in the sensational moment of the match, when Bangladesh needed 20 runs from 7 balls, the umpire in the 19th over avoided giving wides to Hardik Pandya’s clearly outbound ball and ignored the Bangladeshi batsman’s demands.

The funniest moment of the match was when Virat Kohli faked fielding to deceive the batsmen in the second ball of the 7th over during Bangladesh’s batting and was ignored by the umpires.

On Akshar Patel’s ball, Bangladeshi batsman Litton Das played a shot towards the deep offside field, then the fielder Arshdeep Singh, who was there, after catching the ball and threw it towards the wicketkeeper, but Virat Kohli, who was standing in the middle, tried to deceive the Bangladeshi batsmen. Kohli pretended to have the ball in his hands and faked an empty-handed throw to the bowler even though the ball was in the wicketkeeper’s hands.

Kohli’s foul play has been ignored by the on-field umpires and the Bangladeshi batsmen also did not raise this matter on time, however, after the match, Bangladeshi wicket-keeper batsman Noorul Hasan complained that the on-field umpires during the match ignored Kohli’s fake fielding.

He said that I will talk about the fake throw due to which we could have been awarded 5 penalty runs, but at that time no one considered, if it had happened, we would have won the match against India.

According to Law of Cricket 41.5 which deals with unfair play, deliberately distracting, obstructing or deceiving the batter is prohibited and if any incident is deemed to be a breach of this law, the umpire shall declared the delivery a dead ball while the batting team may be awarded five runs as a penalty to the opponent.

After this incident, social media users have also raised questions about the umpiring in the match between India and Bangladesh and the hashtag of #Cheating during Bangladesh vs India has also become one of the top trends on Twitter.
