Pakistani Mountaineer Samina Baig Eyes Making History

If Samina summits K2, she will become the first Muslim woman to scale the second-highest mountain on earth

Samina Baig, the first Pakistani female mountaineer to summit Mount Everest is ready to take another challenge of climbing the world’s second-highest peak, K2.

Samina hails from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and she was trained as a mountaineer from the age of 15 by her brother. In 2009, she debuted as a professional climber.

Back in 2013, the high-altitude climber successfully scaled the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, at the age of 21.

Moreover, Samina managed to climb the 6,000 meters Chashkin Sar peak in Pakistan in 2010 which was later renamed Samina Peak. Breaking stereotypes, the Pakistani mountaineer lives her life beyond boundaries.

She has recently shared some glimpses from Skardu with team members who would assist her in K2 expedition.

The 29-year-old mountaineer disclosed that she will soon be leaving for K2 base camp.

Soon after her announcement, the people are hopeful that the Pakistani mountaineer succeeds in summitting K2.

If achieved, she will become the first Muslim woman to scale the second-highest mountain on earth having a height of 8,611 meters.

The summit has been sponsored by Special Communication Organization (SCO), a telecom operator in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, under the theme K2 dream expedition 2021.

Samina, who had served as the SCO brand ambassador, looks determined to conquer her target as some five local high altitude guides will be overseeing her journey.
