Gilgit-Baltistan Gets Provisional Provincial Status After 73 Years
“GB remained backward because of its cut off from the rest of Pakistan”, says PM
WEB DESK: Prime Minister Imran Khan grants provisional provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) while attending its 73rd Independence Day celebrations on Sunday.
PM Imran said that one of the reasons for him to visit GB was to announce the provisional provincial status. “We have taken this decision keeping in mind the United Nations (UN) Security Council’s resolutions”, he added.
The prime minister said that it was the government’s foremost policy to uplift the country’s poor population and backward areas.
He added that he could not announce or talk about the development packages for GB since it would be considered flouting of rules devised by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before the elections.
While lashing out on opposition, the prime minister cited examples of Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq and said that Muslims always fought enemies with determination but they were mutilated by the ones in their rows.
He once again vowed that there would be zero tolerance against those who looted the country.
