Matric-Intermediate Exams in Hyderabad in Jeopardy

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Hyderabad may have to postpone Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exams this year due to lack of financial assistance from the Sindh government. 

BISE Hyderabad Chairman Muhammad Memon wrote a letter to Sindh government and requested to disburse all outstanding dues prior to exams.

SSC and HSSC exams are scheduled in July and August this year.

The chairman mentioned that Sindh government failed to pay a grant of more than Rs 317,975, 910 which has exerted unnecessary pressure on the education board.

The letter quoted that out of Rs 423,968,410, the board received an amount of Rs 105,992,500 as the first installment last year in December.

Moreover, he added that the aforementioned amount was spent in payments to some vendors and examination staff. However, the board has not paid salaries to majority of its employees.

Due to dearth of funds, the board has also stopped pensions to retirees and perhaps has to postpone exams this year.

The chairman noted that SSC and HSSC exams will not be conducted this year if the government failed to end their financial woes.

“Due to non-payment of grants, the teachers have threatened to boycott in working with the board”, the chairman said.

Memon added that the BISE Hyderabad had also submitted a financial proposal to Universities & Boards Department which was still pending.

focusing Sindh government’s initiative to exempt enrolment and examination fees to promote free education, the chairman wrote that it had badly hampered board’s performance due to lack of reimbursement of full exempted fees by the provincial government.

Memon urged the government to clear all arrears at the earliest to make exams happen.
