Fishermen Reel in One-eyed Baby Shark in Indonesia
Researchers say the baby fish had birth deformity
WEB DESK: Fishermen in Indonesia were astonished to see a white baby shark having only one eye.
They found the bizarre-looking fish when they were gutting an adult shark that died after being caught in their nets.
The fishermen cut open the fish’s stomach to remove the gut when they witnessed a one-eyed baby shark.
The baby shark had just one eye in the middle of its head while its tiny fins had already formed too.
One of the fishermen, Andy, told that they collectively recovered three babies inside the stomach but only one looked weird.
He added that not only the physical feature of the baby shark was strange but its color was strange too like milk.
The crew handed over the shark to local marine authorities for further examination.
Researchers said that the shark likely had Cyclopia, a birth deformity across species that can cause an embryo to form only one eye.
