Karachi’s senior journalist Naimat Khan also protested against the high taxes on the electricity bill.

A user named Muhammad Akram Rayi has shared a video from Faisalabad on his Twitter handle, in which a TV reporter is talking to protesting women with electricity bills in their hands.

In the video, an elderly woman holding bills in her hands is crying and telling the reporter that she is a widow and cannot pay the bills.

Muhammad Akram Rai wrote in the caption of the video that an old woman cries while holding the electricity bill in her hands and says. That “I am a widow, I cannot pay the bill” then how will the Ruler of Time escape from the accountability of these tears in the court of the Judges of Judges?

On the other hand, senior journalist Naimat Khan from Karachi wrote on his Twitter handle while sharing the K-Electric bill of July, saying that after facing loadshedding at midnight, the company sent Rs9,445 bill for using 112 units of electricity in the name of fuel adjustment and different taxes.

He further wrote that on the one hand this looting is going on and on the other hand electricity is cut off at night by saying that cheap gas and cheap electricity from national grade is not available.

Khan further wrote that the message used to be for consumers was “Save electricity, for yourself, for the nation”. Looting has to continue with these excuses.

The price of electricity units used by Naimat Khan was Rs 13.43 paise per unit, which was Rs1,504, but after adding fuel adjustment charges of Rs6,235 and government taxes of Rs 1,521, the billing amount soared to Rs9,445.

On Naimat Khan’s tweet, many consumers complained of hefty bills despite the low usage of electricity.

MQM leader Wasay Jalil wrote in his comment, “Everyone in Karachi is paying wrong bills, KElectric has become a curse.”
