PML-N leaders take aim at judiciary after Imran Khan gets relief in contempt case

PML-N leaders have once again targeted the judiciary after PTI Chairman Imran Khan got relief from the IHC in the contempt case.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders have once again targeted the judiciary after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan got relief from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the contempt case.

The IHC decided not to frame contempt charges against Imran Khan for his objectionable remarks against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry after he gave a statement that he is ready to personally apologise to the female judge and promised that he will not do anything in the future that would hurt the dignity of the judiciary.

A larger bench, headed by IHC CJ Justice Athar Minallah and comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri and Justice Babar Sattar, heard the case yesterday in which the PTI chief was expecting to face indictment in the contempt case.

The IHC termed Khan’s verbal apology before the larger bench as satisfactory and asked him to submit an affidavit detailing what he has said before the court.

Following IHC’s decision not to frame contempt charges, PML-N leaders and PTI critics have targeted the judiciary and criticised its ruling.

Hina Pervez Butt criticised the judiciary and the PTI chief in a series of tweets. She said in a tweet that the courts should stop making decisions by seeing some faces, later, she deleted the tweet.

In other tweets, she warned Imran Khan of facing accountability in the coming days. In a TV programme, Butt said that Imran Khan should have been penalised as he could not be granted a pardon.

She also expressed disappointment over IHC’s ruling and termed Imran Khan a ‘ blackmailer’ who is threatening the judiciary, establishment and the election commission but no action was being taken against him.

Journalist and YouTuber Asad Ali Toor also criticised the judiciary and wrote in his tweet that the Islamabad High Court’s sudden acceptance of former Gilgit-Baltistan judge Rana Shamim’s pardon after rejecting it multiple times was an indication that the high court was preparing the ground to accept the pardon of the Imran Khan.

In another tweet, he wrote that by apologising, Imran Khan has not saved himself at all, but has pulled the IHC out of big trouble.

Analysts said that PML-N leaders launched criticism against the judiciary after the IHC did not give the ruling in accordance with their desired decisions against Imran Khan.

They said that the leaders were showering praises to the same court after it gave verdict in favour of PML-N central leader Ahsan Iqbal by acquitting him in Narowal Sports Complex corruption case.

Analysts said that PML-N leaders showed double standards regarding their opinions about the judiciary as neither every court decision will be given in their favour nor against them.
