Video: No arrangements made for cops protecting Parliament House in cold weather

Police officials parliament house check post cold weather arrangements

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad-based journalist has exposed the miserable condition of cops at the check post established to protect the Parliament House building in extremely cold weather.

A journalist Shakir Abbasi posted a video on his Twitter account to show the police officials performing security duties in deplorable condition at one of the most-sensitive localities of the federal capital Islamabad.

Abbasi said in his tweet, the pathetic condition of police officials exposed the apathy of the powerful people who did not even think to look after their protectors performing duties outside the state-of-the-art building of the Parliament House in extremely cold weather.

He asked Speaker National Assembly (NA), Senate Chairman and Inspector General (IG) Islamabad to show some mercy on the police officials.

In his video posted on January 13, Shakir Abbasi showed the key check post at the entrance route of the Parliament House building. He said in the video that the mercury has dropped below freezing point and no one is caring about the police officers there.

“If you have decided not to show mercy to the police officers then at least look at the dilapidated state of this check post. What impression you (lawmakers and police authorities) are trying to give to show the foreign delegations and other influential persons visiting the parliament from around the globe? Look at these men [police officials], how they are performing duties here in this situation.”

He suggested at least installing a glass-walled cabin for the security persons. Abbasi criticised that even Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had installed a glass wall to stop direct access to his chamber.

The journalist asked the Islamabad police chief to take notice of the situation and do some efforts for establishing an appropriate cabin for the on-duty officers there which not only protect the security officials from tough weather conditions but also increase the beautification of the parliament.
