Will PM Imran’s address to the nation bring immediate economic relief to masses?

The premier is expected to take masses into confidence on agreement with TLP, current economic and political situation.

PM Imran Khan is to address the nation today. He is expected to touch various matters including the recent agreement with the TLP, current economic and political situation during the address.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had claimed that the premier would announce a relief package for masses in the address.

Inflation and high petroleum prices have put severe burden on the pockets of masses. They are expecting an immediate mega economic relief package from the prime minister to sustain amid rising inflation. But, the government’s main focus is still not the inflation and the measures to prevent people from it.

For the last couple of weeks, the government had kept its focus on the TLP related issues and not the inflation. Government ministers have held numerous press conferences on the TLP. What is missing on the part of the government is to take inflation as serious as others issues like TLP and opposition’s accountability.

Not a single government minister has ever held a dedicated press conference on inflation and the steps taken to control it.

Inflation has badly hurt the poor, who are unable to feed themselves three times a day. Their main issue is growing inflation to survive now.

A day earlier, Fawad Chaudhry had said PM Imran Khan would announce a “Mega Relief Package” soon in his address to the nation amid rising inflation.

On Tuesday, the prime minister, according to sources, took lawmakers into confidence over the agreement with the proscribed TLP at a meeting with the government’s coalition partners earlier in the day.

Separately, in a cabinet meeting earlier in the day, PM Imran Khan ordered federal cabinet members to refrain from speaking about the proscribed TLP.

The prime minister’s directions came during a federal cabinet meeting, where he told the members that a steering committee had been constituted to deal with the proscribed group — and only the committee would overlook the matter.
