With the world scooting towards women empowerment and International Women’s Day around the corner, the women in the Republic of India still face suppression and honor killings as in a recent instance, a girl was beheaded by her father for having an alleged affair.
In a heart-wrenching incident that took place in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a man, Suresh Kumar, axed his daughter and carried severed head to the police station.
The suspect maintained that he killed his 17-year-old girl for liking a man he never preferred.
As per details, the father had vowed not to touch food or water until he could kill two.
Suresh explained that he couldn’t find the man and managed only to kill his daughter. “I locked the door and got it done,” Suresh admitted.
The father told police in India that he beheaded the girl with an axe in anger. The horrific incident has taken place just a few days before Women’s Day.
Suresh Kumar left the body of the deceased girl in the room where he slaughtered the victim and took the head towards the police station.

Images of the man carrying the girl’s head were shared widely on social media and incited the need for women protection laws in the state immediately.
Violence against women has jumped in India over the past few years especially in the state of Uttar Pradesh that topped the list with the highest number of crimes against women.
As per reports, violence to prevent a woman from exercising her choice in love and marriage is not properly documented since India does not have a specific law against “honor” crimes.
Hundreds of women in India are slain in the name of honor yearly on the pretext of family’s dignity.
Apparently, these crimes are mostly an outcome of age-old cultures and traditions regarding interfaith marriages and racism.
