However, as opposed to what everyone had thought, the 79-year-old US Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, enjoyed the memes too.
The old Democratic presidential candidate said in a TV interview that he had just crossed his arms and legs to keep warm with mittens for additional safety during the oath-taking ceremony.
Sitting isolated on a foldable chair with a blue facemask and hands donned with iconic mittens, Bernie Sanders for long did not know his photo had become an internet sensation.
He suggested that his photograph could be used to generate millions of dollars for charity going towards needy countrymen.
