Isn’t Canada a Safe Place For Journalists?

The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) says that it calls for swift and decisive action from authorities against the threats

A senior journalist and Toronto Star’s co-host and producer Saba Eitzaz shared a post in regards to the targeted threats and abuses she along with her colleagues have received over the past few days in Canada.

The journalist wrote, “The Caj has come out with a strong statement condemning the sick threats and abuse I and many other colleagues have received in their inboxes and online over the past few days”.

Saba also attached the screenshot of The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) which says that the association calls for swift and decisive action from authorities against the threats.

“Dozen more reporters, many of whom are female and/or journalists of color, have been inundated with intimidating emails and messages on social media with threats of violence, sexual assault, harassment and death”, the letter read.

CAJ also maintained that the authority has been alerted to increased number of such instances where the journalists were targeted for their jobs.

Saba also shared the post written by the association on its Twitter handle.

The social media users, after having grip of the notice, remarked that threating journalists is not a practice only in Pakistan.

The post is an evidence that the journalists around the globe are not safe and have been abused for their jobs.
