CM’s Remarks Triggered ‘Ripped Jeans’ Trend in India
After the video of Rawat's remarks on the woman wearing ripped jeans went viral, Twitter users condemned the mentality of Uttarakhand CM
The newly-elected Uttarakhand Chief Minister (CM) Tirath Singh Rawat triggered #RippedJeansTwitter trend on Twitter after his video from an event went viral during which he made controversial remarks about women who wear ripped jeans.
In the video, CM explained the whole scenario of meeting a woman who was on board with him on a flight.
Rawat quoted that the lady was a social worker and belonged to a reputable and financially sound background.

He expressed that such attire worn by a woman didn’t reflect Indian values and became a source of negativity besides tarnishing the image of society.
After the video of Rawat’s remarks on women wearing ripped jeans went viral, several males and females Twitter users in India condemned the mentality of the government official.
The female users started posting their pictures wearing ripped jeans with hashtags #GirlsWhoWearRippedJeans #Ripped JeansTiwtter.
It’s not just @TIRATHSRAWAT. @myogiadityanath said “when women acquire men like qualities, they become demon like.” @mlkhattar said “If women want freedom, why don’t they roam around naked?” This is the misogyny displayed by BJP leaders!#RippedJeansTwitter @IndiaToday

It’s not the ripped jeans that’s the problem, it’s the ripped mentality that’s the problem.#RippedJeansTwitter

Ripped Jeans aur Kitab.
The country’s ‘sanskriti’ & ‘sanskaar’ are impacted by men who sit and judge women and their choices. Soch badlo Mukhyamantri Rawat ji, tabhi desh badlega. #RippedJeansTwitter pic.twitter.com/qYXcN88fY6— Priyanka Chaturvedi (@priyankac19) March 18, 2021
Moreover, Bollywood movie star Kangana Ranaut joined the league too by sharing some of her photos from different events where she donned ripped jeans.
The actress sarcastically advised her followers to style their ripped jeans in a way that society didn’t depict as their poor financial state.
If you want to wear ripped jeans make sure coolness quotient is of this magnitude as in these pics, so that it looks like your style not your state a homeless beggar who hasn’t got allowance from parents this month, most young people look like that these days #RippedJeansTwitter pic.twitter.com/hc14cLxQDE

Interestingly, history recalls between 1980 and 2000, instead of a fashion statement, the ripped jeans were a result of over-wearing by less fortunate who couldn’t afford a pair of denim jeans.
