Cost of US-Afghan War Beats Combined Wealth of Billionaires

It was not just Americans who were slain in the war but more than 100,000 Afghan military and police personnel and civilians were also killed

The two-decade-long Afghan war is supposed to be the priciest episode of gory for the United States (US) as it cost a monumental $2 trillion to its economy.

The Costs of War Project by Brown University estimated the human and economic costs of the war in Afghanistan.

A Brown University chronicle on the Afghan War showed the US directly funded $800 billion in the warfare and spend another $83 billion for training the Afghan military which didn’t confront the Taliban as they swept the landlocked country.

The mammoth sum the US used to keep the Taliban at bay is more than the combined net worth of Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and 30 richest billionaires in America, the chronicle said.

The cost in terms of lives lost in the Afghan war also remained huge for the US military as it lost 2,448 service members.

Some 4,000 civilian contractors were also killed in the fight primarily between the US and the Taliban.

It was not just Americans who were slain in the war but according to the report, more than 100,000 Afghan military and police personnel and civilians were also killed.

The interest on the US-Afghan war debt will go up to $6.5 trillion by 2050 which would translate to a debt of $20,000 on each US citizen.
