With a rapid increase in covid-19 cases in Delhi, the high court has decided to mandate a new rule of wearing face masks even while driving alone.

Delhi High Court (DHC) declared private vehicles on the roads ‘a public place’, thereby wearing masks even when driving alone has been made ‘mandatory’.

“A mask acts as a ‘suraksha kavach’ (protective shield) which would prevent the spread of the deadly virus.” the high court said.

This protective shield will reduce the chances of getting infected by the virus.

Earlier, Last year, four petitions were filed by lawyers that challenged the imposition of  INR 500 fine on those not wearing face masks while traveling alone in a private car.

A lawyer Saurabh Sharma was fined over the same reason too.

Sharma was among the four law practitioners who had challenged the penalty and said, “The officers who imposed the fine had failed to provide an executive order to establish that it was mandatory to wear masks while traveling alone in a private vehicle.”

Many people defended the idea of not wearing masks when alone in a car.
