Egypt, Qatar negotiating new ceasefire talks with US: report

Egypt and Qatar, in coordination with the United States, are working on a new ceasefire proposal to ensure that progress on a hostage deal is accompanied by continued negotiations to end the war, according to Haaretz, which cited Palestinian sources familiar with the discussions.

The Israeli newspaper reported that Egypt suggested that Hamas dismantle its offensive weapons under Egyptian supervision to provide Israel with security assurances after any agreement is reached.

So far, neither Hamas nor Israel has commented on the report. Israel resumed military operations in Gaza on March 18 after imposing a total blockade and demanding that Hamas accept new conditions.

Hamas, however, has remained firm in its stance, demanding that Israel commit to ending the war in exchange for more hostage releases.

“We will not accept a partial deal of ‘hostages for food’ alone, after which the massacre would resume. We will not break,” said senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi.
