Hamas captivity survivor, Almog Meir Jan opens about his captivity for the first time

“The slightest thing could trigger a punishment – tying our arms to a stick, putting a pen in our mouths, covering our mouth. telling us not to talk or lean on anything. It could be a day, two days, one week”, says Almog Meir Jan for the first time to media since his release from Hamas captivity.

Jan (21) was rescued by the IDF during “Operation Arnon” on June 8th, along with three other hostages: Andrey Kozlov (27), Shlomi Ziv (41), and Noa Argamani (26). After enduring 246 days of captivity, Jan shared his harrowing experiences on “Uvda,” an Israeli investigative program produced by Keshet 12.

He shared: “The Muhammad (didn’t knew his full name) who was with us, the main guy, was unstable. A psycho. We didn’t know how he had wake up in the morning or how he had go to sleep at night. He could be happy and an hour later he could be shouting, and we were scared to death of the days he was grouchy. When the slightest thing could trigger a punishment. Tying our arms to a stick, putting a pen in our mouths, covering our mouths. Telling us not to talk or lean on anything. It could be a day, two days, one week”.

On these critical days of negotiations, with a deal on the table to release all 120 hostages who are still held by Hamas, Almog has one message to the Prime Minister: “If your goal, no matter what it is, is worth the time they are there? Look me in the eyes and tell me if it’s worth it.”
