Hamas will not hold public ceremonies while freeing Israeli captives, as part of the hostage release and Gaza ceasefire deal being negotiated, sources revealed to the New York Times.
An Israeli defense official and a Palestinian source close to Hamas told NYT that the proposal being discussed would see the return of ten living hostages and the remains of 18 captives to Israel.
The report stated that Hamas will release them on five separate occasions over the 60-day truce.
Israel will set free Palestinian prisoners after the process regarding handover of hostages is completed, the report added.
Meanwhile the Palestinian group has said it is reviewing a ceasefire proposal from mediators and that it has sought an agreement that will lead to the end of the war and withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said the group is “ready and serious” about reaching an agreement and will accept “any initiative that clearly leads to the complete end to the war”.
