Amid the religious extremism in its prime in India, the wedding of a Muslim man and a Hindu woman was called off following protests by their community describing it as a ‘love jihad’.

Rasika, a 28-year-old disabled female from Nashik district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, had registered her marriage in court with her Muslim classmate Asif but the families called it off due to Hindu extremism.

The dream of the to-be-couple was shattered when their wedding card was leaked on social media and grabbed the eyeballs of the Hindu extremists who labeled the marriage as a case of love jihad.

As per the details shared by the bride’s father, the marriage was registered in a local court and it had nothing to do with forced conversion.

He added that his daughter was unable to find a good match due to her disability and Asif showed his desire to tie the knot with Rasika.

The families, who were in contact for the past few years, agreed happily for the marriage and the preparations were almost complete.

Meanwhile, the wedding card took rounds on social media and the bride’s father was called on by community members.

Amid the growing societal pressure, the family submitted a letter to a local community organization claiming that the wedding has been withdrawn.
