WEB DESK: Kate Middleton’s sapphire and diamond ring has been voted the world’s most popular engagement ring followed by Meghan’s diamond ring.
According to a study of around 2,000 adults, the Duchess of Cambridge’s ring, a giant sapphire with white diamonds, was crowned as the world’s most popular engagement ring.
Kate Middleton’s engagement ring features a giant sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, in an 18-carat white gold setting.
The ring is one of the precious jewelry pieces that once belonged to Princess Diana, which after her death was handed down to Prince William along with other pieces of jewelry.
Princess Diana chose this sapphire ring herself for her engagement with Prince Charles from a selection of designs by Garrad, who was then the crown-jeweler.
Kate’s engagement ring remained priceless not because of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge but because it also carries the legacy of Princess Diana.
The design of this ring was inspired by a sapphire-diamond brooch originally gifted by Prince Albert to Queen Victoria who wore it on their wedding day.

The brooch consists of a beautiful large oval-shaped blue sapphire surrounded by 12 round brilliant diamonds and is set in yellow gold.
However, Meghna Markle’s engagement ring which stood second in the list was designed by Prince Harry using a diamond from Botswana along with two other diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal jewelry collection.
According to the sources, the sapphire ring was actually inherited by Prince Harry but he selflessly offered it to Prince William when he was preparing to propose Kate.
Harry gave up his precious treasure and gave to his brother a memorabilia of his mother.
