On Sunday, Miss Myanmar Thuzar Wint Lwin triumphed the national costume contest at Miss Universe and delivered a powerful message against Junta. The contest had been scheduled in Hollywood, Florida this year.
Taking to the Twitter handle, Miss Universe official handle shared a video where Lwin held up a placard saying “Pray for Myanmar” as she walked the stage.

Lwin reflected the current political situation faced by thousands of people in her country.

Making the most of the platform, the pageant queen criticized the military government of Myanmar that seized power in February.
Nearly 800 people have been killed by security forces in demonstrations across the country and more than 5,000 people have been arrested in connection with protests.
In an interview with The New York Times, Miss Universe talked about an important message at costume contest saying, “They are killing our people like animals”.
Previously, the 22-year-old Miss Universe had joined in the protests and also donated her savings to people whose family members were killed.
Lwin said, “The soldiers patrol the city every day and sometimes they set up roadblocks to harass the people coming through”.
Interestingly, the airline lost the suitcase of the pageant queen that contained her original national costume.
Luckily, Miss Myanmar borrowed outfits from some contestants while the organizers helped her secure an evening gown.
