Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing knock-backs on political and social grounds as India is suffering the worst covid-19 crisis and the people are seeking resignation from him and on the other hand, Modi failed to win in West Bengal elections.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) campaigned heavily in Bengal and Modi himself took part in two public rallies.

Despite the efforts, Mamata Banerjee won more than 200 seats in the 294 seat assembly.

The results are set to make Ms Banerjee the leader of West Bengal for third time. She is also India’s only female chief minister, reported BBC.

West Bengal was of particular interest to the competing political parties including Modi in India and they made every effort to win against Banerjee.

BJP pulled out all stops for election campaigning with Modi personally leading the campaign and he got the support of the Congress and Left Front against Banerjee.

On the other hand, the defeat came at an hour when India is battling the deadliest coronavirus wave.

The population is imploring for beds and oxygen in hospitals and the death toll has seen a record high.

Not only the citizens but the head of the Serum Institute of India (SII) has also blamed the incumbent government for the recent crisis.

The shortage of vaccines is also blamed on PM Modi as according to details, the government ordered only 21 million doses for a population of 1.3 billion people.

Owing to this, #Resign_PM_Modi recently trended top in India and the twitteratis blamed Modi for his devil-may-care policies.

Meanwhile, India reported 401,993 new cases in the last 24 hours and with this, the cumulative caseload nears 20.3 million.
