Sex workers in Brazil aren’t the ones to get vaccinated soon and they opted to protest against it.
Prostitutes in the Brazilian city of Belo Horinzonte took to the roads as they demanded the government to declare them as frontline workers and carry out their vaccination against coronavirus like healthcare workers and other prioritized groups.
The sex workers gathered on a hotel-filled street on Monday where they used to rent out rooms to solicit customers and staged a protest holding banners and placards.
Thousands of sex workers took to the streets on the call of the Association of Prostitutes of Minas Gerais State.
They held placards inscribing sex workers as ‘professionals’.
Association of Prostitutes of Minas Gerais State President Cida Vieira said that they should be included in the frontline as they played a vital role in the national economy.

Therefore, the official said prostitutes should be vaccinated too.
“We are a priority group, we are health educators, peer educators. We form part of that group, since we give information about STIs for men, distribute condoms…” Cida Vieira said.
A protester Lucimara Costa said they should be declared as frontline workers as they came across different people in a day which was risky amid the pandemic.
Brazil is currently leading in the world with highest death toll.
More than 325,000 Brazilians have succumbed to the deadly virus until now and the tally is increasing daily.
Only 5 million of 200 million population of Brazil has been inoculated so far and at such time, the sex workers staged a protest, seeking to get vaccinated too.
Brazil plans to vaccinate health workers, senior citizens, and those with health conditions first.
