SFJ announces next Khalistan referendum in Washington, DC, on August 17
The latest phase of the Khalistan Referendum, organised by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has concluded in Los Angeles, California, with over 30,000 Sikhs casting their votes in support of an independent Khalistan.
Following the massive turnout, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the leader of SFJ, announced the next referendum would take place on August 17 in Washington, D.C.
He thanked President Donald Trump’s administration for allowing the referendum in Los Angeles to proceed, despite reported pressure from the Indian government to halt the event.
The campaign, which advocates for the secession of Indian Punjab, has been gaining momentum among the Sikh diaspora, particularly in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Khalistan movement, long a contentious issue between Sikh separatists and the Indian government, has seen renewed global interest in these referendums, despite India’s strong opposition.
SFJ, a pro-Khalistan advocacy group, has been spearheading these votes, arguing that Sikhs have a right to self-determination under international law.
The upcoming Washington, D.C., referendum is expected to draw thousands more, as Sikh communities continue their push for what they call a sovereign Khalistan state.
