Singapore Slammed India For Fanning a New Covid-19 Scare

Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan slammed Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal for his warning over a new variant of covid-19 that he alleged in a tweet to be found in Singapore.

“The new covid variant in Singapore is being said to be extremely dangerous for children, in India it may come as a third wave”, Arvind tweeted.

Balakrishnan exhorted Delhi CM to be cautious while stating facts.

“Politicians should stick to facts! There is no ‘Singapore variant’”, he replied in a tweet.

The foreign minister also attached a link in his post that detailed the spread of B.1.617 (Indian variant) in Singapore.

On the other hand, India’s central government also heavily criticized Arvind Kejriwal for his comment, and S Jaishankar, India’s foreign minister, posted a clarification on the matter.

“Irresponsible comments from those who should know better can damage long-standing partnerships. So, let me clarify- Delhi CM does not speak for India”, he wrote.

Additionally, the Singaporean government also marked their objection with Indian High Commissioner.

Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore asserted that there is no truth in the references in reports in a section of Indian media about the presence of a new variant of covid-19 in the country, adding that there is no ‘Singapore variant’.
