Trump’s call for a “zone of freedom” in Gaza

During a visit to Qatar, Donald Trump, the former U.S. president, suggested that the United States should take control of the Gaza Strip. His vision involves transforming this war-torn territory into a “zone of freedom.” Trump emphasized that the U.S. could engage in rebuilding the region.

I have concepts for Gaza that I think are very good. Make it a freedom zone, let the United States get involved – said Trump.

Trump emphasized that so far, the Gaza problem has not been solved. He also announced the necessity to “deal with Hamas”.

This is not the first time Trump has suggested the U.S. take over Gaza. He has previously proposed creating the “Riviera of the Middle East” on the ruins of the Gaza Strip. As before, his proposal has met with fierce criticism, especially from Arab countries, who fear destabilization of the region.

International responses
Trump’s vision has been rejected by many countries, who emphasize that implementing such a plan would violate international law. Arab countries have proposed an alternative reconstruction project, which does not involve relocating the Gaza Strip’s population.

Despite international criticism, Trump’s proposal has gained support in Israel, especially among the radical right. The Israeli government promotes a programme of “voluntary migrations” from the Gaza Strip, which aligns with the vision of the American leader.
