The monsoon showers are a blessing for the locals of Thar, a desert in the province of Sindh, as the region starts buzzing for agriculture as soon as the rain abuts the dry land.

With the first downpour in the region, the people in the area began settling their lands for cultivation to store food for the rest of the year.

The region has been suffering since long from famine due to extreme scarcity of water and hundreds of children die of malnutrition and hunger every year.

With severe shortage of water supply, the Tharis as well as their cattle have to cope up with the low food supply.

The mothers are unable to feed their infants due to low production of breast milk.

More than half of the population live below the poverty line in this region and the people are using their cattle for land cultivation. Camels and donkeys are the main sources to furrow the soil for the crops.

Despite promises made by the Sindh government, no assistance has been provided to the people living on barren land and they suffer at the hands of water and famine issues.

The locals were of the view that the monsoon rain brings glad tidings for them and their cattle every year.

Tharis, awaiting help from the government, began cultivating their lands with the start of the monsoon season to beat the threat of famine .
