Researchers and former employees of Instagram have started a heated discussion over a feature that is badly affecting the self-esteem of teenage girls.
According to the details, the new feature installed on Instagram develops negative feelings in the young generation especially girls about their body image.
In this regard, researchers and ex-employees revealed that the company didn’t disclose what it knew about its impact on young users.
A report published in Wall Street Journal highlights that Facebook was aware of that Instagram feature that has harmful effects to the mental health of many teenagers, particularly girls, but it has kept the matter private.

Moreover, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated to lawmakers that research had shown that social media apps had positive mental-health benefits when used to connect with others.
He added that platforms like Instagram can contribute to body image issues and depression because humans have an innate desire to compare themselves to others.
On the flip side, researchers and former Facebook employees said that Instagram’s problems are inherent and therefore it is almost impossible to fix.
