Tom Ford’s husband Richard died peacefully last night at his Los Angeles home with Tom and son Jack by his side. He died of natural causes after a lengthy illness.”
Buckley was a titan of the fashion media world and was director of Vogue Hommes International for six years before stepping down in 2005.
With a career spanning more than 25 years, he has held numerous coveted positions in the industry, including fashion editor at Women’s Wear Daily, social media editor at Vanity Fair and European editor at Now The Late Mirabella.

He’s also contributed to titles like Italian Vogue and New York Magazine, keeping a keen eye for spotting men’s fashion trends several seasons before they hit the runway.
In 2016, Ford told Jess Cagle what “love at first sight” was like when he first came across it. She met Buckley at a 1986 fashion show in an elevator at the time, according to the publication, Buckley was a fashion editor for Women’s Wear Daily.Ford was not a household name yet and worked with sportswear designer Cathy Hardwick.
Their relationship started like a whirlwind, according to Ford, who told Cagle, “When the elevator landed on the first floor, I thought, ‘You’re the one.’ That’s it. Click. Sold.”
Buckley and Ford became a powerful fashion couple in the 1990s after Ford was hired as a women’s fashion designer at Gucci in 1990 and promoted to creative director in 1994.
The couple lived and worked in the fashion capitals during their relationship. , including stations in Milan and Paris. They had their son in September 2012 and were married in 2014.
Ford is currently President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
