KARACHI: One-hour rainfall in Karachi has exposed the tall claims of the Sindh government and Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab as half the city was submerged and plunged into darkness.
As per Pakistan Met Department’s prediction, rain-lashed in many parts of Karachi with strong winds on Wednesday and it turned many areas into streams. PMD had forecast heavy rains with dust storms a few days ago.
Light and heavy rain in other areas including Safora Chowrangi, Bahadurabad, North Nazimabad, Korangi, Shahra-e-Faisal, Garden, Lines Area, New Karachi, Nursery, Old City Area, Garden East & West, Soldier Bazaar, Ranchhor Line and Liaquatabad.
Karachi Airport, Gadap Town, Malir, Gulshan-e-Jamal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and adjoining areas received light to moderate rain and drizzle.

According to the PMD, wind speed in Karachi has been recorded at 81 km per hour.
Balochistan has had a pre-monsoon system for the past several days which was strengthened by the hot and humid weather of Karachi. The met department said that the rain system entered Karachi from Lasbela after strong winds.
Four people, including at least two children, were killed and several others were injured in the first spell of pre-monsoon rains yesterday.
According to Jamshed Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddam Hussain, two children were killed and two others were injured when a weak wall of a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Mahmood Colony, Mahmoodabad.

Meanwhile, a child was seriously injured when the roof of his house collapsed near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
As per PMD statistics, the highest rainfall of 38 mm was recorded in Nazimabad. This is followed by Jinnah Terminal (22 mm), Airport Old Area (15 mm), PAF Base Faisal (8 mm), Quaidabad (6 mm), University Road (5.8 mm), Gulshan-e-Maymar (4.4 mm), Saadi Town (2.7 mm). Mm), Orangi Town (2 mm), PAF Base Masroor (2 mm) and Surjani Town (1.7 mm).
More than half the city is in darkness as soon as it starts to rain with strong winds.

Analysts say that the Meteorological Department had forecast heavy rain in Karachi about a week ago but measures were not taken by the Sindh government and district administration.
During the period, for the convenience of the people, orders were issued to stay on the roads, but contrary to the orders, no administration was seen anywhere on the roads, and no administration was seen for drainage from the roads.
