Cyclone Biparjoy intensifies, threatening Pakistan’s coastline

Experts have classified Bipper Joy as a severe cyclonic storm, showing no sign of weakening

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has informed that Cyclone Biperjoy in the Arabian Sea has intensified and is now moving towards Pakistan.

Storm, which was initially moving in a north-westerly direction, has now changed direction and is moving in a north-easterly direction. The Meteorological Department has classified the storm as a severe cyclonic storm with no signs of weakening.

According to Meteorological Department, the very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy has changed its path slightly. Cyclone has been slowly tracking in the northeast direction for the past 12 hours. It is currently located about 1,120 km south of Karachi.

According to the Meteorological Department, due to the effects of the storm, waves are likely to reach heights of 25 to 28 feet, which is much higher than the normal sea level of 4 to 5 feet.

The Meteorological Department has warned that if the storm continues in the same direction, Pakistan’s coastline may face a potential threat.

The PMD emphasizes the need for caution and preparedness in coastal areas. The PDM has urged the residents of the coastal area to take precautionary measures in view of the intensity of the storm.

According to the global model forecast, Buperjoy Oman-Pakistan’s western coastline while some India is pointing towards Gujarat-Pakistan Sindh coastline.

What is Cyclone Biparjoy and how was it named?

Biparjoy was suggested by Bangladesh and the word means ‘disaster’ or ‘disaster’ in Bengali. Storms are named following existing guidelines or on a rotational basis.
