Food Inflation Rose in August Despite Overall Stay at 8.4%

The people could not get relief in prices of various daily-use products including ghee, sugar, milk, meat, and flour

Despite swinging for the fences, PTI-led government hasn’t been able to bring down inflation as it stayed at 8.4% in August like the previous month.

The report issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed food inflation rose last month.

The people could not get relief in prices of various daily-use products including ghee, sugar, milk, meat, and flour.

The food inflation in urban areas stayed at 10.2% and 9.1% in rural areas.

Compared to July, the citizens witnessed 1.94% increase in milk price, 1.75% in the rate of ghee, and a 1.36% jump in sugar price while the price of chicken spiraled by 11.98%.

When compared to August 2020, there was a 10.64% change in the rate of milk, 23.68% in eggs, 20.47% in chicken, and 13.71% in meat.

On annual basis, the price of potato, onion, and wheat dropped by 19.35%, 1.36%, and 1.03% respectively.

The cost of education and medical treatment increased by 3% and 9% respectively on a year-over-year (YoY) basis.
