New FBR Chairman Asserts ‘Data Wasn’t Hacked’
He conceded that the cyberattack on FBR’s database succeeded in disrupting the system but the hackers failed to access any data or transaction details
The newly appointed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed refuted the claims of a cyberattack on the revenue board’s data and said that it was neither stolen nor hacked.
During a press briefing, the FBR chairman said that out of 850 data machines, 400 of them got disrupted but fortunately, the data wasn’t hacked.
He conceded that the cyberattack on FBR’s database succeeded in disrupting the system but the hackers failed to access any data or transaction details.
In response to data breaching, the FBR chief cleared that the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) chief officer had resigned before the cyberattack on the database.
Moreover, FBR’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mansoor Sultan said, “There has been a breach of system and it seems that the attackers did not want to go beyond that.”
