Besides Revenue, Cyberattacks a Trial For New FBR Head

The government removed Asim Ahmad from the slot on failing to take measures for halting cyberattacks

The PTI government once again made changes in its economic team and appointed Dr Ashfaq Ahmed as the new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The government removed Asim Ahmad from the slot on failing to take measures for halting cyberattacks.

In this regard, the government has hired an Irish company to assess damages caused by the hackers to the FBR data.

At the time when the PTI government came into power in August 2018, Rukhsana Yasmin was the chairperson of the revenue board.

Later, she was replaced by Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan after a month’s gap but his services couldn’t last 9 months.

While briefing media, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry disclosed the name of the new chairman.

Dr Ashfaq Ahmed will be serving as the 7th chairman of the FBR in 3 years of the incumbent government.

Though the new appointment has been welcomed by different sectors, some are concerned whether Dr Ashfaq Ahmed will continue or be substituted like his predecessors.

Last year, two FBR chairmen including Muhammad Javed Ghani and Nausheen Javaid Amjad were replaced by the government.
