Iranian Plane Rigorously, Suspiciously Inspected at Beirut International Airport

Beirut International Airport witnessed late Thursday strict and unprecedented security measures against the Iranian airplane, Mahan, carrying Lebanese arrivals who voiced dissatisfaction and harshly criticized the move

The security agencies thoroughly scanned the arrivals’ luggage for several hours, which led to motorcade protests near the airport and social media outrage.

Activists mentioned that the thorough inspection of the Iranian planes started several weeks ago in presence of US officers.

The Saudi Channel, Al-Hadath, had claimed, quoting Western sources, that Iran was planning to transfer millions of dollars to Hezbollah via Mahan flight.

The security measures also included inspecting the luggage of an Iranian diplomat who serves at the embassy in Beirut, which violates Vienna Convention that stipulates the diplomatic immunity.

The Lebanese interior minister Bassam Mawlawi stated that the security agencies inspected the Iranian plane in accordance with the commands given them to them.

Political and security contacts took several hours to reduce the tensions caused by the move.
