US Scientists Now Have Faith in Chinese Sinopharm Vaccine

World Health Organization also approved the emergency use of Sinopharm earlier this month

A study published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) shows that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine has shown efficacy against the virus.

The JAMA study analyzed as many as 40,832 volunteers from countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Egypt, and Jordan.

The participants were divided into three groups and either was administered both shots after three weeks, or a placebo.

The results showed only 26 participants developed covid-19 infections and that no volunteer developed a major illness after receiving the jab.

“The two vaccines developed by China National Biotech Group Co, which is a unit of Sinopharm, showed the efficacy of 72.8 % and 78.1 %, respectively”, the report said.

On the other hand, the Chinese companies have commenced the Sinopharm vaccine distribution sprightly in developing countries including Pakistan.

“The 2 vaccines had rare serious adverse events at a frequency similar to the alum-only control, and the majority were not related to the vaccinations. An exploratory analysis found that the 2 vaccines induced measurable neutralizing antibodies, similar to results in the phase 1/2 trials,” the study revealed.

However, the study had several limitations as well like pregnant women and those younger than 18 years were not included in the study.

On the other hand, it was conducted on generally healthy individuals, mostly young men from the Middle East.

Notably, World Health Organization (WHO) also approved the emergency use of Sinopharm earlier this month.
