EOBI seals Sheikh Rashid’s residence Lal Haveli

EOBI has sealed Lal Haveli, residence of former Home Minister and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed in Rawalpindi. The Deputy Administrator says that the help of FIA and Police has also been sought for the seizure.

Asif Khan, Deputy Administrator of Mutukah Waqf Property Board along with FIA and Police reached Lal Haveli and sealed 2 units of Sheikh Rasheed’s residence.

A notice was issued to Sheikh Rasheed by the abandoned endowment estate to vacate the building, after which Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed challenged the action against the mansion on behalf of the abandoned endowment estate in the court.

Sheikh Rasheed, in his petition filed in Rawalpindi Civil Judge Naveed Akhtar’s court, stated that the Lal Haveli and adjoining land case is still under hearing, the eviction notice and proceedings from Lal Haveli are illegal.

Sheikh Rasheed’s announcement to approach the High Court

History of Lal Haveli:

Barrister Dhan Raj built this beautiful mansion in Bohar Bazar, Rawalpindi, for a dancer Budha Bai, which came to be known as Sehgal Mansion. Sheikh Rashid bought this building from a Kashmiri family for five and a half lakh rupees and named it Lal Haveli.

This ancient building gave recognition to Sheikh Rashid. For more or less forty years, this mansion has been one of the main political centers of the city. Sheikh Rasheed became a minister 16 times and the flag of the federal ministry is hoisted on this mansion. He may not stay permanently in this mansion, but this mansion has been his abode for decades to socialize and communicate with the people of his constituency.

This building first came into the public eye in 1987 when Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed contested the councilor election and also became a mayoral candidate from Rawalpindi.

All major political figures and diplomats have been visiting here. Apart from Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Imran Khan came to Sheikh Rasheed for political alliance in 2013, then they came to Lal Haveli before going to Liaquat Bagh for the rally.
