PTI or PPP, Whose Narrative Will Win in GB Election?

Gallup termed pre-election prediction as 'murky and difficult' after neck-to-neck survey results

WEB DESK: Gilgit Baltistan (GB) election is going to be nip and tuck between the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as Gallup pre-election prediction survey revealed.

According to the survey, the upcoming GB Elections will be a very close contest between PTI and PPP, and the ruling party ahead of PPP, whereas, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) is staying third.

The survey unveiled that Prime Minister Imran Khan was the most popular leader in Gilgit Baltistan followed by Pakistan Peoples Party’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML N’s Nawaz Sharif.

According to the survey around 30 per cent of voters believed that elections will be transparent and free.

The representatives and ministers of the ruling party have started making victory claims as PTI is shown ahead in the recent survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan.

However, the survey research agency has termed election prediction very ‘murky and difficult’.

The survey results showed that some 27% of people in GB are willing to vote for PTI but the point that was overlooked was 24% of voters willing to give PPP another chance in the region.

In a special note issued by the survey agency, it stated that closer analysis showed that PPP ahead of ruling PTI in two of the total three divisions of GB including Diamer and Gilgit.

PTI has managed to garner support of voters from the Baltistan area.

This may, the note read, turn the tables in favor of PPP which can collectively win more seats in the GB election and possibly form a government.

However, the electoral dynamics on Election Day are something that must be kept in consideration too.

Gilgit-Baltistan elections are vital for the all three major parties, that is why all of them are doing their best to win it.

Whichever party wins the election from the GB, it will surely try to establish the narrative that they are the most popular in the public.

If the PTI wins this election, it will certainly say that the people have rejected the anti government narrative of opposition and if they lose, the opposition parties will not waste a minute to say that the people have rejected PTI and their Tabdeeli narrative.
