Same Notary Public of Rana Shamim’s affidavit, Nawaz Sharif’s documents raises serious questions

Justice Aamer Farooq was not part of bench hearing Nawaz's bail petition then why he was made a call?

Former chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan apex court Rana Shamim has alleged that ex-Supreme Court chief justice Saqib Nisar had instructed Islamabad High Court Judge Aamer Farooq in 2018 to keep Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in jail till the general elections held the same year.

Rana Shamim had made the allegations in a notarised affidavit.

The former top GB judge gave the statement under oath before the Oath Commissioner on November 10, 2021. The affidavit was duly notarised by Notary Public Charles Drostan Guthrie, which is located in Golden Cross House, 8 Duncannon Street, London.

If we look at the few recent affidavits notorised by Nawaz Sharif in London, we find something common between these and the one by Rana Shamim.

Last year, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had submitted an application to the Punjab home department with regard to his ailment. The application had the same stamp of Notary Public Charles Drostan Guthrie.

Surprisingly, another health-related document of Nawaz Sharif was notorised in 2020 by the same British notary- Charles Drostan Guthrie.

The commonality of same notary public with regard to the documents of Nawaz Sharif and Rana Shamim raises serious questions over the connections of the two.

According to Rana Shamim, former chief justice Saqib Nisar had directed IHC judge Aamer Farooq not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. If we go back to 2018, Justice Aamer Farooq was not a part of the bench hearing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and her daughter’s bail petitions. Then, why the then CJ had directed Justice Aamer Farooq instead of the bench hearing the petition? This also raises doubts over the Rana Shamim’s allegations.

The IHC bench comprised Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani and Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb.

In case the bench influenced on the directive of Justice Aamer Farooq then three IHC justices were allegedly involved in the unlawful act.

Taking notice of the matter, the Islamabad High Court has summoned Justice (retd) Rana Shamim, the former chief justice of Gilgit-Baltistan, with regard to his allegations against former CJ Saqib Nisar tomorrow (Tuesday).

The court has also summoned The News‘s editor-in-chief, editor and journalist Ansar Abbasi.
