Stone-Crushing in Quetta Mars Environment, Health
More than 25 legal and illegal stone crushing plants are gnawing the mountains surrounding Quetta Valley.
Quetta, one of the most polluted cities in the world, has above 25 stone-crushing plants that are polluting its environment.
Koh-i-Chiltan is also being gnawed by legal and illegal stone crushers.
The dust having traces of gravel forms strata in the atmosphere and even sometimes affects the arrival and departure of flights.

The officials of the mineral department said stone crushing plants produce 25,000 tons of gravel annually which in return gives royalty worth Rs 25 million to the Balochistan government.
Balochistan High Court (BHC) had also ordered Quetta’s administration to move all crushing plants out of the main city but it wasn’t implemented.
While talking to News360, the locals of Quetta including Shahidullah and Azmatullah said that the crushing of mountains may be necessary for development but it has marred the environment of their city.
Dr Mahmood Shahwani of Fatima Jinnah Chest and General Hospital said healthy people are suffering from asthma, silicosis, and other diseases due to pollution caused by stone crushers.
He said these diseases can turn into cancer if not treated timely.
One of the plants is also situated near the healthcare facility, he added.
