Who is prime ministerial candidate? Rebellion started in PML-N over Shahbaz and Maryam

An element of rebellion has started to emerge within the PML-N regarding Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz are prime ministerial candidate. Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that Shahbaz Sharif will be PM candidate from PML-N whenever there is an election while former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair has said that PML-N cannot sweep in general elections without Maryam Nawaz.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, senior vice president of PML-N, had claimed in an interview that Shahbaz Sharif would be the PML-N’s prime ministerial candidate.

He had said that Maryam Nawaz could not contest elections due to cases. He said that from a moral point of view, the party which is the president is elected for the post of Prime Minister.

Talking about the Establishment, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that our suggestion is that the Establishment should raise its hand against the PTI.

Former Governor Sindh and senior PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair has denied the statement of Shahid Khan Abbasi and said that the corruption case against Maryam Nawaz is weak.

Muhammad Zubair said that Shahbaz Sharif is the president of PML-N and obviously he will lead the election campaign.

Reacting to the clear differences between the PML-N, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, while sharing the message on social networking site Twitter, wrote, “The statements of Shahid Khaqan and Muhammad Zubair have further clarified the divisions within the PML-N. “These families have wreaked havoc on the country. Now Karma is watching. A new leadership will emerge in the Noon League, which is a good thing. The PPP should also go ahead of Zardari.”

Commenting on the latest situation, political analysts say that even if the PML-N wins the next general election, the decision for the PM post should not be made by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Maryam Nawaz or Shahbaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif has to decide. Shahbaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi are so powerful that Junior Maryam Nawaz is running the party from them.

Analysts say that the statement regarding making Shahbaz Sharif the Prime Minister may be an attempt to send a message to someone that our next Prime Minister will be the conciliatory Shahbaz Sharif.

Analysts further say that Shahbaz Sharif was also the PML-N’s prime ministerial candidate in the last elections whether he was associated with the politics of reconciliation or the politics of interests. He emphasized that whether it was Nawaz Sharif’s decision or not, Shahbaz Sharif would be the PML-N’s candidate for the PM’s job.

However, analysts also say that the party was defeated in the 2018 general elections due to sharp differences between Shahbaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
