All political parties should clarify their position regarding negotiations by tomorrow, Supreme Court

Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday issued notices to political parties to resolve issue related to delay in elections, declaring as inadmissible defense ministry’s request to hold elections across country at same time. Supreme Court has summoned all political parties with their representatives tomorrow.

A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, and Justice Muneeb Akhtar rejected the requests of the Ministry of Defense and Islamabad citizen Fida Muhammad Khan to hold elections at the same time across the country. Heard on

In the petitions, a position has been taken that after the completion of the term of the National Assembly, provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan, elections should be held simultaneously in all the governments.

In the petition submitted by the Ministry of Defense in the Supreme Court a day ago, it was requested that the Supreme Court withdraw its order of April 4, which the court had given regarding fixing the date of Punjab Assembly elections on May 14.

In the petition, the Supreme Court has been requested to issue an order to hold the general elections of the national and all provincial assemblies on the same date.

During today’s hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandyal gave important remarks and said that according to the constitution, elections must be held within 90 days and the court has decided to hold hearings on a daily basis to speed up the process.

Further, Chief Justice Bandyal while commenting on the issue of caretaker governments said that they cannot remain in power for more than 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies. The issue of caretaker governments exceeding the 90-day period was also raised.

The Chief Justice, while seeking an answer again regarding the provision of funds, remarked that if the political parties come to a stand, the court can make room.

The Chief Justice said that this case has become too long, the matter is getting too long, and it is expected that the government will review its decision, if the government does not accept the orders of the Supreme Court, the results of the matter may be extraordinary. Don’t want to jump to unusual conclusions right now. Court orders should be delivered to the government.

The important thing about today’s hearing was that today’s hearing consisted of two parts. The first part was the April 4 decision of the Supreme Court, which ordered elections to be held in Punjab on May 14.
