‘Barking dogs’: Geo News DN keeps silence on Maryam Nawaz’s new audio leak

In latest audio leak, PML-N's Maryam Nawaz and Pervaiz Rasheed compares media persons to 'barking dogs"

The Director News (DN) of Geo News, Rana Jawad, has kept a complete silence after another alleged audio leak of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) central leaders, Maryam Nawaz and Pervaiz Rasheed, in which they compared media persons to ‘barking dogs”.

Another audio leak of PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz had surfaced yesterday in which she was allegedly talking to former information minister Pervaiz Rasheed regarding the contacts with the media houses.

In the audio leak, they were allegedly talking about Geo News DN Rana Jawad and senior journalist Nusrat Javed without taking their names that had been sent two baskets as gifts by the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Moreover, Pervaiz Rasheed was also talking about senior analyst Hafeezullah Niazi and anchorperson Babar Sattar in the alleged telephonic conversation with Maryam Nawaz.

After the audio leak, Nusrat Javeed is defending himself by responding to the allegations in which he clearly admitted to accept gifts from different personalities.

On the other hand, Geo News DN Rana Jawad kept a complete silence over the speculations, making the scenario more suspicious when media personalities are being blamed for becoming part of politicians’ propaganda campaigns after receiving gifts.

In 2013, Geo News DN Rana Jawad had praised PML-N Quaid and former premier Nawaz Sharif for appointing her daughter Maryam Nawaz to distribute government funds under the youth programme.

In the latest audio leak, Pervaiz Rasheed appeared to be comparing media houses to the barking dogs.

PML-N leaders are not the first who used the term of barking dogs for media houses as Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had also compared media persons to the barking dogs in a public gathering in October last year.

Analysts said that the politicians have expressed their thoughts about the journalist community time-to-time despite making tall claims of believing the journalism as one of the state pillars and promises to support the freedom of expression.

The latest audio leak has cleared exposed their claims and promises besides exposing for what they thought about the journalist community.
