Black-listed Cops by Ex-CCPO Umar Sheikh to be Reinstated

Punjab Riot Force SP Aisha Butt has opened up against the favoritism culture in the police department

The Punjab government has decided to reinstate some 50 officials of Lahore police who were unlawfully black-listed by sacked Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh.

All these police officials would be reinstated to their positions after being removed from the black-list.

Meanwhile, News360 learned that there existed no such law in the Police Order 2002 under which a police officer could be black-listed as done by ex-Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh.

Ex-Lahore CCPO had even black-listed cops on the unlawful list who held a good record. Sources told that the Umar Sheikh resorted to the move as the police personnel had connections with members of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N).

Upon getting sacked, Ex-CCPO Lahore shared verses of famous poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz after getting removed from the post to express his feelings.

The restoration of the black-listed police officials has begun as Dost Muhammad has been deployed as the Model Town SP.

Ex-Lahore CCPO had removed him from the seat on December 23, 2020, on charges of demanding a vehicle and Rs 30 million as backhander.

However, the inquiry report cleared him and Punjab Inspector General (IG) ordered his restoration.

Ex-CCPO had taken the charge on September 2, 2020. However, many complaints had piled up against the city police chief over his non-professional attitude.

He had drawn public and professional ire in three months on the seat only.

A sub-inspector of the Punjab police, Fahad Iftikhar Virk, had resigned after Umar Sheikh had called him ‘khotay ka bacha’ during an official meeting.

The post had never been this controversial as it had become during the brief tenure of former Lahore CCPO as his differences with the Punjab Inspector General (IG) emerged soon after Umar Sheikh took the office.

His influence could be gauge from the fact that Punjab IG was replaced.

He ran Lahore police in his way and kept aside professional etiquettes.

Umar Sheikh failed to control the crime rate in Lahore and it spiked during his three-months in the office.

Voice Against Bias

Meanwhile, Punjab Riot Force SP Aisha Butt has opened up against the favoritism culture in the police department.

In a Twitter post, she accused that transfers and promotions based on favoritism were destroying the police department.

Aisha Butt lamented that the officials who raise voice against it are charged with corruption and dereliction of duties.
