Lahore High Court has ordered Awami Muslim League chief and former federal minister petition filed by Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed to stop caretaker government of Punjab from working has been approved for hearing.

Azhar Siddique told the inquiry of the court that if the elections are not held within 90 days, the caretaker government will be abolished and the old government will be restored.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s lawyer Azhar Siddique took a stand in the court that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will be reinstated as Chief Minister of Punjab if elections are not held in ninety days.
The Assistant Advocate General objected to the application, on which the court asked who you are, then the Assistant Advocate General said that you are the representative of the Government of Punjab.
Punjab government representative Assistant Advocate General told Justice Shahid Karim that Justice Raza Qureshi has already rejected such a request.
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court remarked that the court is not giving notice to the caretaker government. The court is only looking at the matter constitutionally.
The court approved the application of former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed for hearing and issued notices to the federal government and other parties including the Election Commission.
It should be remembered that after the collapse of the Punjab government in January this year, the provincial assembly was dissolved and a caretaker government was established in the province.
The Supreme Court had fixed the date of May 14 for the Punjab Assembly elections, but despite the completion of the constitutional term of the caretaker government, the general elections could not be held yet.
